Even if the original Marley's song sounds very nice, the guitar strumming of Clapton was more usefull to define something clear with an acoustic. Very beautiful cover by the Hawaïïn Israel Kamakawiwo'ole with his Ukulele. A Ukulele is most of time tuned with a high G 1st string (g-C-E-A) which is good to play melodies, but sometimes the players prefer to use a low G 1st string as the guitar tuning (G-C-E-A). This is what happen here and this is why there is a possibility to reproduce the song at the guitar. Israel Kamakawiwo'ole played with his fingers and his strumming technique was very, very great. I use a pick to try to find something close, and it's sound quite good, even if I know that it's not as great as he did :-)

This is the Acoustic version of the song as it played by Chris Martin. I prefered to play the Dm7 on the 5th fret, seems more simple to do and sounds good too ! This arrangement requires a custom tuning : F (E+1) / A / D / G / B / C (e-4)

For this song, I decided to add the capo on the 3rd fret to arrange the 2 guitars parts and the chorus (for the chords). Normally there is no capo and the guitars are playing in the same time. The difficulty with the electric guitar songs is to reproduce them in the spirit of the original even if you're playing an acoustic guitar. Here is a way to do :-)

This is the acoustic version from the MTV unplugged. Kurt Cobain used to play 5th chords in his songs. The difficulty here is for the E5, he takes it as a Em, but he mutes the G string with his index finger. Doing this, without a 3rd, the chord is neither major nor minor. That's a specific playing of Kurt Cobain. Mostly, he did it with barre chords, which is easier.

An other great song by Sting (& The Police). On the original recording, Andy Summers use the palm muting technique with his typical barre chords (add9 and sus2). To adapt this guitar part to the acoustic, I translated the song in G (instead G#) and put the capo on the 1st fret. This tune allows me to use several open chords. For the bridge, I used a pick but it could be also nice with the fingers.

This is a very special way of teaching... no text, no tabs, no speech.
I do that because first, I can't explain in english correctly and I want to share with the whole world. Second, I always learned that way. When I record on a new song, I try to show you all the things you have to know to reproduce what I do.
Anyway, there is never only way and you can use different fingers if you are not comfortable with my fingerings.
